Be Brave My Wee Friends!

Hi, my name is Shelbi, and I'm a sucker for kid's movies.

[Everybody joins in] Hi Shelbi...

Yea, y'all better not judge me, but it's true, some of my favorite movies are designed to entertain little kids, like Tangled for instance.

If you haven't guessed it, I'm going to do a review for a kid's movie... (:

Yes, ladies and gents, Disney Pixar's Brave is the latest and greatest movie out on the streets! And honestly, it wasn't that bad, but compared to other Disney movies, I couldn't say it ranks in my favorites.

Brave is about a Scottish Princess who must choose between three suitors, one from each clan besides her own. However, Merida, the princess, is no ordinary princess. She loves Archery, goofing around with her three younger brothers, and nothing related to being a princess. Because of this, Merida and her mother, Elinor, don't get along very well. Elinor sees one thing for her daughter, while Merida sees something completely different. Not to mention her three choices for a husband were NOT impressive, at all. So Merida escapes and stumbles upon an old witch in the woods, whose voice might sound familiar to you (Because it's Mrs. Weasley!!!). Anyways... Old witch gives Merida a spell that turns Elinor into a... Bear!!!! And since bears are not looked on very highly in the kingdom, Merida and Elinor must run off and hide while learning to face their differences!!

Ca-yoot movie, but like I said, not my favorite, and definitely not what I was expecting after seeing the previews!! Kind of reminded me a little bit of that old bear movie, Big Brother!

However, I still recommend that you go see it with your family! It's a Disney movie, it can never go wrong! Plus it's a good, clean-cut, wholesome movie with a great moral!!!

My final rating is 4 stars! (:

See y'all laterzzzzz.

Roman's Suggestion #1

Alrighty, so I'm getting better at this suggestion thing, huh? The latest one was from a friend Roman, who has actually suggested two movies for me to watch. The first, he suggested about a year ago and I have yet to watch it, the second he suggested yesterday and I've already watched it.(:

That is the extent of my good mood though. My momma always taught me, "if you ain't got nuttin' nice to say, then don't say nuttin' at all..."
OK-so maybe not quite as hickish, but something along those lines anyhow...

Well the movie I will not be saying anything about is called Daydream Nation. Let me tell you, it had potential. I love Andi McDowell and I love Kat Dennings. I just absolutely hated that movie. (Sorry Roman)

So just for the readers' future reference, which would be all of you, I ask that you please not suggest anything that heavily revolves around drug use, or anything remotely like this movie. Because... I did not like it AT ALL.

It's set in the druggie capital of America. Well, Here's Your Sign! Oh, and it has this creepy love triangle between this sex-crazed girl, giant pothead, and suicidal, depression ridden, psycho teacher.

No, not cute student teacher relationship like Ezria, this relationship was sick. The whole movie was sick. They even throw in some random serial killer for grins. The serial killer really had no point in the central storyline, this movie just had a really sick crew working on it I guess.

Definitely not my kind of movie. And it has forever tainted Kat Dennings for me, who ironically played a character named Caroline. (for those of you who don't know, Dennings is in a TV series called 2 Broke Girls where she plays Max and her best friend's name is Caroline, hence the irony)...

So if your into the druggie stuff, it might seem like a good movie to you. But not me, lo siento amigos.

Lucas's Suggestion #2!

I'm a thinker, that's just the kind of person I am. I love things that get me to think. I'm a big puzzle solver, I want to be the person who figures everything out and it bugs me when I can't remember something or solve the problem or puzzle or whatever it is.

That's why I really enjoyed Lucas's 2nd suggestion, Exam. It's a movie that really makes you think. The whole time I was trying to figure everything out before the end, and I'll admit, they had me stumped. I'm no Nancy Drew, I'll tell ya, but I sure wish I was sometimes...

So, like I said the movie is called Exam. It's set sometime in the future, but there no indication of how much farther into the future it is, aside from some medicinal advancement references. And judging by everyone's accents, probably set somewhere in England or close to...

Basically, the movie is about... An Exam, duh. Pretty evident by the title if you ask me. Only 8 people take the exam, and we are introduced to each individual character at the very beginning of the movie with abstract close-ups of each individual, giving some kind of glimpse into their personality before you're able to tell what they look like fully.

The Exam is given to these 8 people as the final step into the very long, difficult process of an application for a job at this biomedical company. The rules to the exam are simple: They were each presented a sheet of paper with one question which would require one answer. They were not allowed to communicate with the man administering the test, nor the guard inside the room. If they chose to leave the room, they would be disqualified. And finally, it they soiled their exam paper, intentionally or not, they would be disqualified. They had 80 minutes to complete the exam.

Well, little did they know, absolutely nothing was on each person's sheet of paper. Let the mind games begin. Muahahshahahahahahahahahaha. Ha.

It was almost like The Hunger Games in this little bitty exam room. First everyone worked together to find the question, but soon, everyone started turning against each other until the 80 minutes were up. Actually, the more I think about it, it was a lot like THG...

I definitely enjoyed this movie and may or may not watch it again. The suspense may be ruined though because I know what's waiting at the end unlike all of you people reading this review instead of going and watching the movie!

And if you aren't convinced yet, one of the 8 exam takers is quite the looker, just sayin' (;

What are you still doing reading this post?! Go watch it!

You'll regret finishing this, so go watch it now!!!

NOW I SAY!

Ha. Well thanks Lucas, hopefully I can get everyone else to watch it too.

Keep the suggestions coming guys!

Love y'all!

Lucas's Suggestion #1

I finally had my first movie request/suggestion! (well aside from Hot Rod which I may or may not ever get to...)

My friend Lucas from school suggested two movies to me on the Facebook group yesterday and I watched the first one this morning!

This movie was called Boy Wonder, and it wasn't that bad. It's a thriller, which isn't my usual movie type, but as I let it sink in, I kind of enjoyed it. It was something different from my norm, which was nice; refreshing even.

I've seen thrillers in the past that I like better, honestly, but here's a little about Boy Wonder:

In BW, a teenage boy is tormented by his past. He witnessed a carjacker murder his mom as a very young boy. The kid, Sean, grew up with a vengeance and became a Peter Parker type character, going around "righting justice" by killing wanted criminals who, too, had been charged with previous murders.

In many ways, the character Sean reminded me of Spiderman without the super powers. He lost a member of his family, so he goes around NYC killing people who did others wrong.

Unlike spiderman however, Sean was very sloppy... He used the same gun every time, the men he killed all lived in the same neighborhood, and he looked up mug shots at the local police department, where a detective starts to pick up on things.

That's just an overview of it mostly. At first when I started watching the movie I didn't think I'd like it. But it was actually pretty good and towards the end, a lot of strings start tying together and the suspense builds up to a twist at the end of the movie. And as sloppy as Sean was, he was actually a smart kid and pulled a lot of stuff over unnoticed. Pretty cool if you ask me, except that he got away with murder on many accounts... That's not cool.

If anyone else wants to, I love suggestions! That was a good one Lucas, can't wait to watch the next!

Thanks! Love y'all!

Fixed it!

Ok, so I recently (5 minutes ago recently) apologized for my issues with the setting on my iPad and in my blog posts.

Welllllllll...... I think I might have figured it out, so thanks for being so patient with me and reading my posts even though they looked a lot longer than they should've been...

Also, thanks for putting up with any grammatical or autocorrect error in any of my posts. I do my best to proofread each one, but I'm only human!!!

Thanks again, love y'all!

And keep on reading! (:

Apology

Firstly, I would like to apologize for a couple of things... Apparently whenever I post from my iPad, the setting are a bit different. I'm not sure if you noticed but in some of my posts, the post is a long giant paragraph. Others a a bit more organized into little neat paragraphs. I'm trying to figure out what the issue is, and hopefully I'll be able to fix it because I prefer blogging from my iPad than on my computer. I will also try to fix the previous posts because a big long paragraph is less appealing to read than short paragraphs... Love y'all!

Woody's Latest

It's pretty well known that one of my favorite movies is Midnight In Paris. I absolutely LOVED that movie. I never get sick of it. Ever.

Ever since I saw that movie I started getting into Woody Allen's other films. Granted, I haven't seen many, but there is some quality of his movies that I seem to love. Aside from MIP, I haven't seen one of his movies I just absolutely adore, but there is something about them that makes me want to watch more, even if I don't enjoy the storyline, or some other aspect.

Every year, Woody Allen directs a new movie, this year was no exception. His latest is called To Rome With Love, starring Woody himself, and other greats such as Penelope Cruz, Alec Baldwin, Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenburg and many other familiar faces, along with a slew of new ones.

When I first saw the commercials I was so excited and I couldn't wait to go see it, but as I sat in the very empty, very cold movie theater, I wasn't really warming up to the movie itself. The movie, TRWL as I will shorten it, follows the path of many different groups of people, mainly couples, who either live, or vacation in Rome. There's the American girl who meets the Roman man and falls in love. Her parents who fly to Rome and are the complete opposite of his parents. Your average Roman middle class worker who becomes famous overnight. Two Roman newleyweds moving to Rome. A Roman prostitute with the wrong customer. The American students studying in Rome with a slight love triangle. And then there was Alec Baldwin's character, a famous architect vacationing in Rome but mainly just plays a part as the subconscious of different characters (it was really creepy and weird).

Honestly, TRWL had the makings of a really great chick-flicky romcom, but something went wrong in all the plots. Each plot had the potential to be really cute, but Woody would add some weird bizarre twist to it that would just be... Well... Weird. As my friend Megan put it during the credits, the movie was "interesting.....".

I can't really think of a great way to describe the movie. As I was telling Megan, many of the storylines would have been very cute and enjoyable, it they hadn't done this or that, which was actually quite disappointing. Maybe I just went into the movie with too high of hopes because it definitely was NOT what I was expecting to see.Who knows, perhaps one day I will watch it again and change my mind, my first judgement can be too harsh sometimes... I'm just saying, if I were the director/writer/producer, I would've changed aspects of the movie to make it less... Bizarre.

Peace Out Kids.

Rainy Day Movie!

Man you gotta love those rainy days. (:
I sure do.
It's the perfect atmoshpere to curl up in bed or on the couch and watch a movie, which, of course, is exactly what I decided to do. (While painting my nails, BONUS!)

So the movie I picked for today was Nine Lives. It's a rather odd movie actually, and I give it two stars at best. It was a series of vingettes, short stories, about 9 different women's relationships with someone. Whether it be a mother, father, child, lover, or themself, each story was about 15 to 20 minutes long.

It was just enough time to really start connecting with the character, then BAM. That's it, shows over folks, let's move on to the next girl...

Super ANNOYING. And if that wasn't torture enough, the directors/writers/producers decided that in each story they would sprinkle in one of the previous, or yet to be mentioned character, as a very minor role. Like someone at a funeral, or the nurse, or a police. They don't have a main part in that person's story, but they are there nonetheless.

In addition, the whole movie makes many refrences to how small the world is and how each person is connected to another. Central Theme maybe? Just a hunch anyways.

One thing that this movie had going for it was it's cast: Robin Wright (who played Jenny in Forest Gump), Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter), Amy Brenneman (who's in one of my favorite The Jane Austen Book Club), Amanda Seyfried (the reason I watched this movie, one of my favorite actresses and also Karen from Mean Girls), Sissy Spacek (mainly known for Carrie, but in numerous other films), and Glenn Close (who doesn't know Glenn Close? Sarah Plain and Tall, 101 Dalmations, and MUCH more).

So yea... See it, don't see it. Up to you really. I'll probably never watch it again, but no biggie if I do. I honestly am just kinda nuetral on this movie. It had it's ups and downs I guess. Actually, don't watch it, probably a waste of your time.

Peace Out Kids.

Not So Magic Mike

Ask any girl around the world, "If you could only see one movie in theaters the whole year what would it be?" I guarantee most people would say Magic Mike. Yet, no one really knows, or knew, what Magic Mike was really about!I'll admit wholeheartedly that I went into the movie theater "blind", knowing nothing about the movie itself aside from its painstakingly beautiful cast.

Now, let me tell you a little bit about the movie.

IT. SUCKED.

Sure there was a TON of eye candy, but aside from that, it was awful. And even with the eye candy there was actually not that many scenes of them "stripping" and by stripping I really mean some sexually-charged dance movies and some very skimpy clothing. The biggest disappointment was the fact that Channing Tatum's character 'magic mike' never really stripped to much less that his pants or shorts.

Also, there were as many boobs in the movie as there were buttcheeks! The producers had to know that no straight guy would go see this movie so why bother adding that!? Girls don't like staring at other girls' boobs!

So yea, that movie pretty much stunk, and the ending was awful. There were a million different pathetic storylines - if you can even call them that - and the ending only finished maybe one of them! Now, I heard a rumor that they're already started writing a sequel movie, so hopefully it will tie up some of the loose ends but someone else will have to tell me because I refuse to go see it. And trust me, I'm not the only person who feels this way!! Everyone that I went with had the same reaction and as a group we gave it a C-, just saying...

But it's up to you! If you think $10 is worth maybe thirty cumulative minutes of hot sexy bods, then go ahead and waste your money, but I don't think it's worth it...

Peace Out Kids.

It's a bird! It's a plane! NO, it's just another superhero movie!

First, I'd like to apologize to everyone because I promised that this summer I would be watching a lot of movies, thus there would be more posts for y'all to read. Well obviously that hasn't happened... But I'm going to try and start posting more, I promise!!!

Not to mention that I've been crazy busy so far this summer and I wasn't really expecting to have so little free time!

Well anyways, here is the first review I have for you this summer, and for once it's actually a movie that just came out into theaters! Woohoo I'm on top of the game this time!

Last night instead of sitting outside watching the fireworks, my family and I decided we would go see a movie together instead! The consensus was The new Spiderman movie, even though I was really pushing for Brave... Oh well, it was still an amazing movie! (hehe, anyone catch that? AMAZING?! As in The AMAZING Spiderman...) So anyways... It was really good! Now, I haven't seen the original Spiderman movies with Tobey MaGuire and Kirsten Dunst in a really long time, but I enjoyed those movies thoroughly. But as far as I remember, the story line to the new movie, which had an absolutely wonderful cast might I add, was actually almost the same as the original ones! Except, this movie had Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane! But like I said, it's been awhile since I saw the others, so I could be mistaken. (my sister thinks theyre almost exactly the same too.)

Needless to say, I liked this Spiderman WAYYYY better than the old ones and I can't wait to see the second one! Hold onto to your seats folks because this movie is getting a coveted 5 stars from me, I know, shock. Maybe it's because I'm a major sucker for Emma Stone, or maybe it's because Andrew Garfield looked amazing in that skin tight spidey suit, and has an adorable smile... (:

Either way this movie is a winner. Anyone who goes I suggest you stay for the credits because there's a special little sneak peek into the next movie and you don't want to miss out on that now do you!?

Well I think that is going to be all for now. Hopefully I'll have something else for y'all in the near future!

Peace Out Kids.
